Job Description

This role supports a Cape Town–based FMCG business, operating within a spice production environment, and works closely with executive leadership to strengthen financial discipline, controls, and operational visibility.

What you will be doing:

  • Own the full month-end close process within tight deadlines
  • Maintain accurate general ledger records and review work completed by junior staff
  • Prepare and review journals, accruals, prepayments, payroll, and inventory movements
  • Perform and manage balance sheet reconciliations and intercompany balances
  • Control and reconcile inventory including raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
  • Analyse cost of sales, production variances, yields, and wastage
  • Maintain Bills of Materials and standard costing frameworks
  • Oversee supplier payments, procurement cycles, and weekly payment runs
  • Manage cashflow forecasting and working capital requirements
  • Prepare monthly management accounts with clear margin and cost insights
  • Conduct budget vs actual analysis and support forecasting processes
  • Ensure VAT, PAYE, and statutory submissions are accurate and on time
  • Maintain audit-ready files and support year-end audit processes
  • Implement finance SOPs and improve internal controls and processes
  • Lead, mentor, and develop two junior finance team members

What we are looking for:

  • Completed audit articles or equivalent accounting training
  • Professional qualification such as AGA(SA), CA(SA), CIMA, ACCA, or similar, or currently in progress
  • Approximately 3 years post-articles experience
  • Experience in a group or multi-entity environment
  • Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals and financial controls
  • Experience using QuickBooks or similar accounting systems
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Practical, hands-on approach with strong communication skills
  • Ambition to grow into a Financial Manager role
