Are you the kind of accountant who looks at a manual process and immediately sees three ways to speed it up?

A well-established Cape Town manufacturing group is bringing in an experienced Senior Accountant on a six-month contract to hold the fort while they build out their finance leadership. This is a hands-on, multi-entity role with real ownership from day one. You will be stepping into a function that has been running on manual effort for a while, so there is plenty of room to make things sharper as you go. 

What you'll be doing

• Running cashbooks across multiple entities, including petty cash and trust accounts
• Preparing and submitting SARS returns: VAT recons and submissions, PAYE, TCC, and handling VAT audit schedules
• Processing and reconciling credit card schedules, rep expenses and sundry payments
• Handling month-end: intercompany clearing of debtors and creditors to loan accounts, management fee and divisional recovery journals, export and intercompany COS reallocations, payroll journals and standard monthly journals
• Owning the full monthly balance sheet reconciliation pack, including purchase accrual review
• Finding the efficiencies: bringing better use of systems and data to work that is currently done by hand

What we're looking for

• A completed degree, postgrad or professional qualification in finance with solid experience in a similar controller or senior accountant role
• Genuine data and systems literacy. This is the single most important requirement
• Strong balance sheet reconciliation and analysis skills
• Confident with SARS submissions and multi-entity processing
• Sage 300 experience is a bonus but not essential. Manufacturing background is not required
• Someone who holds the line. You will need to be firm, organised and comfortable working without much hand-holding
• Available immediately or on very short notice
