Well-respected investment management team seeks a Tax & Corporate Actions Assistant Manager to join their operations team. Ideal candidates will be CA(SA) qualified with relevant tax and corporate actions experience within financial services. Great team and working environment.
Responsibilities:
- Review completeness and accuracy of client tax liabilities
- Ensure that team complies with tax reporting, filing and related requirements
- Ensure tax submissions are accurate and submitted timeously
- Review and analyse tax calculations done by external service providers for institutional clients (Capital Gains Tax, Interest Withholding Tax (IWT), Capital Gains Tax and Dividend Withholding Tax (DWT) calculations)
- Review assessments of Funds in-country tax exposure
- Ensure institutional funds are correctly registered for tax, liaise with in-country tax authorities and specialists, ensure registration is completed and ongoing filing requirements are adhered to
- Review of Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) and Common Reporting Standard (CRS) submissions for applicable clients
- Review client and portfolio tax implications of all/complex corporate events
- Review tax implications and tax reporting related to CIS income distributions and classifications
- Ensure changes to applicable tax legislation (local and foreign) are identified, communicated, considered and actioned
- Manage all institutional tax projects and/or system changes pertaining to tax
- Identify and assess the impact of corporate actions on portfolio holdings and valuations and ensure corporate actions is accurately recorded
- Understand and ensure tax and accounting impact of all corporate actions are all accounted for correctly
- Manage proxy voting and elective events and signing off instructions to custodians
- Manage Tax Reclaims process
- Manage clean audit on the ISAE tax controls
- Identify gaps and areas of improvement in current processes
- Reviewing existing processes, validations and reports to ensure most efficient manner possible
- Build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships, internally and externally
- Represent the company at industry related tax committees
- Coordinate and drive current corporate action and operational tax initiatives, projects and testing within the team
- Minimum of CA(SA) or an Honours in Tax or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years relevant tax, corporate actions, or accounting experience, within Financial Services
- Proficient in all Microsoft packages
- Highly numerate and a critical thinker
- Excellent attention to detail, disciplined and methodical
- Strong leadership skills, self-starter able to create efficient processes and controls
- Interpersonal and communication skills, build and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders
- Good time management skills, able to manage heavy workloads and multiple tasks, work flexible hours if needed
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
