Job Description
Trade Accountant (Commercial Finance | Commodity Trading)
If you’re sitting in a traditional accounting role and starting to feel like you want more exposure to the actual business, this could be the move that changes your career
We’re working with a global player in the commodities space, looking to bring in a Trade Accountant to sit right at the heart of their trading operation
This is not your typical finance role. You’ll be working closely with traders and operational teams, getting real visibility into how deals are structured, how markets move, and how financial performance is driven day-to-day
What you’ll be doing:
You’ll take ownership of daily trade P&L reporting, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and alignment to market activity. You’ll monitor positions, exposures, and working capital, and play a key role in identifying discrepancies and resolving them quickly
You’ll be involved in month-end close and management reporting, providing meaningful insights and commentary that actually support decision-making, not just tick a box
You’ll also be part of strengthening controls, supporting audit processes, and helping improve systems and processes — including automation and reducing manual work
On top of that, you’ll work closely across trading, operations, and finance, acting as a true business partner in a fast-paced, commercially driven environment
What we’re looking for:
You’ve got a BCom in Finance or similar, and around 2–4 years’ experience in a commercial environment.
Ideally, you’ve had exposure to:
- Trade P&L or management accounting
- Stock, pricing, or margin analysis
- Commodity trading, agriculture, or a supply chain-driven business
You’re strong on Excel, comfortable working with data, and naturally curious when numbers don’t make sense.
You’re someone who asks questions, thinks critically, and wants to understand the “why” behind the numbers.
Why this role stands out:
This is a rare opportunity to step into a role where finance is directly linked to trading decisions and market activity
You’ll gain exposure that most accountants only get much later in their careers, positioning you strongly for future roles in commercial finance, business controlling, or trading environments
Location:
Stellenbosch (office-based)
